Regional History Museum – Pazardzhik won a project from the National Culture Fund

The Regional History Museum in Pazardzhik has secured financial support of 39,000 leva from the National Culture Fund as part of the Cultural Heritage 2024 program. This funding will be used for the project titled “Presentation of the Belovo Early Christian Basilica and the Tsepina Fortress in a Digital Environment.”

The project aims to preserve and promote two significant historical sites: the Belovo Basilica, one of the most notable early Christian basilicas in Thrace, and the medieval Tsepina Fortress, which was a prominent and formidable stronghold in the Rhodope region during the 12th to 14th centuries. Tsepina served as an important political and administrative center of the Western Rhodopes.

Through an interactive digital reconstruction, the project seeks to bring to life the rich heritage of the Middle Ages, enhancing the experience for visitors and fostering a deeper appreciation for these sites. Currently, only the impressive remains of the basilica and fortress are visible. However, with this project, the cultural heritage will be revitalized, providing an engaging way for the audience to connect with its authentic history.

The project includes 3D scanning of the remaining structures, after which the data will be processed to create detailed 3D models. Additionally, an interactive application for the Archaeology Hall will be developed.
