Honor to Pencho Slaveykov

On March 23, 2018, in the museum “Konstantin Velichkov”, 6 Teodor Trayanov Str., the exhibition “Honor to Pencho Slaveykov” was opened, on the eve of the 151st anniversary of his birth / April 27 / and the 105th anniversary of the poet’s death, May 28, 1912.

Thirteen boards presented the most important periods in life and creative work of our great poet: biography, family, hometown, student period in Leipzig (1892 -1898) and his affiliation with the literary circle “Misal” and its magazine “Misal“.

Manuscripts, cards and letters presented the special connection between the poet and his muse Mara Belcheva. Their joint work on the translation of Nietzsche’s „Thus Spoke Zarathustra“ and the poem “The Bloody Song” earned a nomination for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1912.

The exhibition also presented the ten-year activity of Pencho Slaveykov as deputy director and director of the National Library.

The last days of his life Slaveykov spent in the small town of Brunate near Lake Como (Italy), where he died on 28 May 1912 .

The exhibition was open for visitors until April 27, 2018, every weekday from 08.30 am to 05.00 pm
