Exhibition “When the boy becomes a man… The barracks during ‘those’ 45 years”

An author’s exhibition of Dr. Iliya Valev, an ethnologist and chief assistant at the National Ethnographic Museum, will be held at the Regional History Museum – Pazardzhik on April 12, 2024, starting from 5:00 p.m. The exhibition titled “WHEN A BOY BECOMES A MAN…” THE BARRACKS DURING “ONEZI” 45 YEARS” will showcase a range of historical facts and objects related to the Bulgarian army during a specific period.

The exhibition will present customs and rituals related to the barracks transition and re-marriage of the boys, and will showcase the everyday life of soldiers inside the barracks. It will include original objects from the socialist era, such as men’s uniforms from Basic Military Training, men’s prom suits, uniform soldier clothing (winter and summer) and sailor clothing (parade and every day). Also on display will be a parade uniform of a conscript from the Border Troops from the 1980s, a guard cap, military emblems and signs, medals intended for military personnel, and items of military equipment and items for various official activities, personal belongings and documents.

The exhibition will be open until 15.05.2024 on working days from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, please call 034/443 108 (internal 103).
