There has been a new discovery of gold at the Yunatsite settlement mound

During the 2023 season of archaeological excavations at the Yunatsite settlement mound, the multinational team, led by Associate Professor Dr. Kamen Boyadzhiev, achieved great success. They uncovered a small gold plate, possibly a fragment of jewelry, while exploring a layer at the base of the Stone-Copper Age’s last settlement, dating back to the 5th millennium BC. Despite its size, this object is of significant value in studying the world’s earliest metallurgy development. This is not the first gold discovery at Yunatsite; in 2016, a gold bead was found, confirmed to be the oldest worked gold in the world, and in 2017, a gold appliqué was also discovered. The discovery was transferred to the Regional History Museum – Pazardzhik fund.
