The Regional History Museum in Pazardzhik has opened its newly renovated Archaeology Hall

On September 30, 2024, a solemn ceremony marked the opening of the renovated Archaeology Hall at the Regional History Museum in Pazardzhik. This modernization was carried out under the project titled “Revitalization of the Space and Renovation of the Exhibition in the Archaeology Hall of the Regional History Museum – Pazardzhik.” This project falls under the RA 14 Program for “Cultural Entrepreneurship, Heritage, and Cooperation,” specifically targeting Result 1, which aims for “Improved Management of Cultural Heritage.” It also addresses Sub-result 1.1, which focuses on presenting cultural heritage in revitalized, restored, and renovated spaces, all funded by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area for the period 2014–2021.

Attendees of the event included Ms. Amelia Gesheva, the Deputy Minister of Culture; Ms. Valentina Kaitazova, the Regional Governor of Pazardzhik Region; Mr. Petar Kulenski, the Mayor of Pazardzhik Municipality; and Ms. Tanya Kolchakova-Yaneva, the Deputy Mayor for Education, Culture, Youth Activities, and Sports. Also present was His Eminence, the Ecclesiastical Vicar Boyan Kochev, the Bishop’s Deputy of the Pazardzhik Spiritual District. The event was attended by municipal councillors, municipal employees, representatives of cultural institutions from Pazardzhik and across the country, members of the media, public figures, and representatives from the companies that renovated and equipped the hall.

During his speech, Boris Hadzhiyski, the Director of the Museum, reported to the audience on the successful completion of all project activities. He expressed gratitude to the donors—the Kingdom of Norway, the Republic of Iceland, and the Principality of Liechtenstein—for their financial support totalling 825,225.24 leva, which was allocated for the project.

He also acknowledged the project team, experts, partners, and specialists from the RHM – Pazardzhik, as well as the Pazardzhik Municipality, the Ministry of Culture, and the National Fund for Culture, thanking all companies that contributed to the successful conclusion of this significant undertaking.

Ms. Amelia Gesheva, the Deputy Minister of Culture, and Mr. Petar Kulenski, the Mayor of Pazardzhik Municipality, also congratulated the museum on its achievements.

The substantial financial contribution of the Regional History Museum – Pazardzhik, amounting to 325,000 leva, was particularly noted. This amount was invested in finishing activities not covered by the project. The financial support from Pazardzhik Municipality, the Ministry of Culture, and the National Fund for Culture was similarly acknowledged.

Gratitude was extended to the Bulgarian Museums Association for its assistance to museums, which in the last three budget years received a significant increase in their standards. As a result, the museum in Pazardzhik was able to allocate substantial financial resources from its own budget for additional activities in the hall.

Valentina Taneva and Gergana Mihaylova, the museum’s deputy directors, received the institution’s highest honour—a commemorative sign from the Regional Historical Museum and a diploma recognizing their contributions to the development of museum work in the Pazardzhik region. Their significant efforts in modernizing the museum and preserving and popularizing the cultural and historical heritage were highlighted.

A prayer service of thanks was held for the success of the project, after which Boris Hadzhiyski officially opened the renovated Archaeology Hall of the Regional Historical Museum – Pazardzhik.
