Touch the Past

On December 7, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in the building of the Regional History Museum-Pazardzhik, pl. “Konstantin Velichkov” № 15, will be held in the event “Touch the Past” on the occasion of December 3 – International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The event is dedicated specifically to the visually impaired. For this purpose, the conference hall of the museum will be exhibited selected exhibits from the departments of RHM – Pazardzhik, which visitors with visual impairments will have the opportunity to touch, and the curators will tell their stories. In this way, they will be able to experience, if only for a short time, the rich cultural heritage of Pazardzhik and the region.

The construction of the new exhibition in the Archaeology Hall, which will be implemented in 2024, is tailored to the specific needs of people with disabilities, providing them with equal access to the exhibits through different modes of presentation. Special audio and Braille guided tours (for the visually impaired) are planned, as well as models (created on a 3D printer), tactile signs, and maps of artifacts to allow them to ‘explore’ the exhibition. All videos will be subtitled (for the hearing impaired) in both Bulgarian and English.
The new exhibit will provide people with disabilities equal opportunities to experience the past without feeling discriminated against, and along with that to fully and effectively participate and engage in society.
