Martenitsata Workshop Starts

In the period from 24-26 February 2015 at the Ethnographic Exhibition of Regional History Museum-town of Pazardzhik will be held Martenitsata Workshop. Martenitsa is a small piece of adornment made of wool that is worn from the first day of March until a stork or blossoming tree is seen. By tradition martenitsa serves as a good luck charm and brings excellent health to the wearer.
It is up to you to decide if you want to prepare martenitsa all by yourself or be part of a team.
Every participant in the workshop should bring white and red woollen thread that will be made into martenitsa under the supervision of museum workers.
The opening hours of the activities will be 10:00 – 16:00 on the above mentioned days.
This year a competition Most Original Traditional Martenitsa will be organised as well starting from 8 February. It is open for children aged 6-14 years. The prepared martenitsa will be displayed at the Ethnographic Exhibition at 8 Otets Paisiy str. until 22 February. An exhibition will be held with all martenitsa on 23 February. Awards will be given to the best martenitsa makers.
